I think I feel better about eating them now that I know they aren't babies...!
But the other thing I note from this story is how hideous it is that carrots are/were discarded for being the "wrong" shape. I would like to know who ever made the decision that certain ones weren't right and should be discarded. Who ever cared? I guess it bothers me that these kinds of sick & invisible design decisions are made all the time and all you know from the supermarket is that the carrots are there.
Baby carrots aren’t babies at all. They’re grown-up carrots cut into 2-inch sections, pumped through water-filled pipes into whirling cement-mixer-size peelers and whittled down to the niblets Americans know, love and scarf down by the bagful.
