Upgrade Democracy: Check out Democracy 2.0!

Although all of our attention remains on November 4th, in what I know is the most historic election of my short lifetime, I, along with my Millennial colleagues at Mobilize.org, are working to focus members of the Millennial Generation on another key date: November 5.

We are hoping to get feedback from critical voices in our political dialogue, both on and offline, like yours. We were also hoping that if you are interested in what you read, you would be willing to post a link or information about the report on your blog.

The following is a little bit about our report:

On July 4, 2007, Mobilize.org launched the Democracy 2.0 Campaign, a project to call attention to the ways that our democratic process and institutions are failing to serve the interests of people in our country, specifically young people.  These failures, as well as proposed solutions and action plans were culminated in a document called the Democracy 2.0 Declaration written by 47 people, representing thousands of voices, over 10 hours on October 4th, 2007. This Declaration is a living document, chronicling the barriers to meaningful and long-lasting engagement facing us, written by us. I am humbled and empowered to have this Declaration as a guiding document for my generation as we work collaboratively to improve opportunities for participation and voice for all citizens.

The enclosed report, Democracy 2.0: Millennial Generated Change to American Governance, is the story of Democracy 2.0, from the summer of 2007 in communities and on campuses around the country to our late night in Washington, D.C. in October to an exciting four days in Hollywood in December as we convened young leaders from each state for the Party for the Presidency. Our work is far from over and we have detailed the next steps that you have called for in this report.
