Personally, there is so much misinformation and also copyright violations on the web today.
And writers need to know about copyright laws and also about plagiarism, which amounts to fraud.
To learn more how to be a good reporter/writer and not break any laws, which could end up in your blogs deleted or lawsuits filed, go to:

It's only a matter of time before sites are closed down for allowing too much copyrighted articles from being posted.

Sources MUST be quoted when writing if you are quoting or copying text word for word. And some writing SAYS you must have permission to repost.
I just get so upset when I see people violating copyright or writing stuff and acting like they are the authors.
It amounts to theft and fraud.

Thanks for sharing... I have many articles on the web... many on my personal site, and many have been republished with my permission on various sites of various nature... However, when I google my spiritual name, Gentle Deer Lion Tamer, I run across many places that my articles are that I had no idea... Granted, most give source information and such... and I have no personal issues with people spreading what I am writing.. But it would be nice to at least know where your stuff is getting posted at.

If you find your work on someone's blog, for example on blogger, you can flag it, report them and it will be deleted.
When people don't quote their sources, they should be reported in my opinion, but I am "old school."

I have actually clicked on the Google link to check out how it is presented, only to get to the page and be denied access because I am not a member.. Well, I am not going to join all the various groups and such to view the page.. However, if I were to click and it was a site that I did not feel even was close to being Pagan or about Paganism/Native American and such, I would go further... :) As I said, the ones I have been able to view, have quoted the source, that is how I find them on Google... I guess one would have to search for keywords within the article to try to find one's work that way... and.... believe it or not, lol, I don't have the time with all that I do online, and then work full time too.
Nice to meet you to, and welcome to NP.... I have enjoyed the site for right at three weeks.. so I am new here myself.. Have made some stumbles, and have gotten some great advice and guidance from some wonderful staff members here...

One way you can also find if your writing is being used is to copy and paste some of your writing into a search engine and then everywhere your words show up, you can find where your writing is being used.
I took some classes in Wicca and have some Wiccan friends.

I may have to give that a try.. :) Would be interesting.. I am surprised at how fast Google does pick things up... I have seen some articles here show up in Google within minutes of posting.. Considering how large the web is, that is amazing!
That is great that you have taken some classes in Wicca.. I don't teach formally, but I do teach... I work quite a bit with coven members and their families, as well as those that contact me via the web, usually after word of mouth or one of my articles showing up on the Witches Voice or something like that.
And yes, indeed, I know of one Wiccan friend you have.. me.. :)
I look forward to more that you may offer to the site... You state you are freelance.. What areas do you cover? Just curious. Hmm.. maybe we should continue this in messages.. I forget at times and get off topic...

You can view previous discussions about this topic in the forum and what has been done since and why as well as when and how.
Unfortunately it is a difficult issue and has no easy quick fix nor does it go away since it is ongoing just has NP is being joined by new members every day some do need to learn and understand the reasons behind copy rights. Many are not aware off the issue or do not take it seriously, why we have guide lines that need to be broth to their attention. Simple actually and easy enough to do through PM preferably. This is a people powered news site and there for the people are also in part responsible for it.

I do believe if every new member was directed to read the information on Plagiarism.org, it would teach them how not to violate copyright and plagiarize.
It could be that simple.
I have tried to tell some bloggers gently they were violating copyright, yet they argue with me and refuse to learn. They interpret copyright law wrong.
The Plagiarism.org site is very good and explains it better.

Any truth?
Word on Vancouver streets is that NowPublic is about to be acquired by Canwest. While a NowPublic acquisition may not seem like a significant transaction, keep in mind that Canwest's current market capitalization is a paltry $80 Million - down from $700 Million only one year ago. NowPublic raised $10 Million in venture capital in July of 2007.
This rumour may have legs. NowPublic Co-founder Len Brody has advised Canwest in the past.

NowPublic is, was, and will forever be a dead-end idea.
Frankly, that last post looks like a plant, trying to start a rumour that has no basis in fact, because the companies days are beyond being numbered.

Control freak! Its not "off topic" because if NowPublic is sold then plagiarism and copyright may no-longer be the issue it has been here for the past couple of years. PEP has posted about plagiarism and copyright for at least a couple of years. There are a few original writers on NP, Paschen is one of them who has also made many a long post or comment on plagiarism and copyright. While even staff editors don't write original posts others won't be encouraged to follow suit. Why spend a few hours writing an original piece when the staffers plagiarise away like there's no tomorrow. Today, NP have changed the terms and conditions so something is under foot.

Yeah, there was a little physicality given to describing your words. I found them pretty strong, so used some fittingly demonstrative terms.

I cannot but wonder, if the very concept of NowPublic upsets you so, why would you waste your time being here?
I'm very new to this site. It seems like a great concept. However, I do realise some Canadians see CanWest as Satan personified and tend to get a little steamed about it.

I see CanWest as a socially responsible enterprise trying to get by in the world, and nothing more.
And I'm a supporter of media, the more the better.
To tell a member of the audience to leave is bad business, unless they're being abusive or overly disruptive.
I came across a post and questioned it. I notice the number 6 beside the post, so it seems to be of interest to people.

Allen... I have been involved in this post for a while.. I am questioning your attack.. It really seems rather senseless... As for being off topic.. I agree.. this has nothing to do with what you are talking about.. The editors do their post responsibly.... quoting a few lines from the story with some lead in and such.. and media.. such as photos and videos... They do not copy the whole story, on a regular basis in the manner that you are suggesting.. I further agree with the other who commented.. if you are so unhappy with what is happening here, why are you here?
NP is a great concept, and very productive, worldwide... and has a large viewing audience that surpasses many of the other mainstay news sites... We have more comments here on the breaking news than most of the other sites.. Click the source links on the stories and you will see what I am talking about.

Copyright is still copyright and plagiarism is still plagiarism, no matter who is the major stockholder and pulls the strings.
You can choose the Creative Commons license for your writing, I presume...and now writers may actually get paid for the work here...I don't know what the problem is.
And I am not a control freak.
Staying on topic on a forum thread I started is not asking too much, I hope.
CanWest/NowPublic all I know is that I am going to write...and if I get paid for it, then THANK GOD. or ALLAH, or SHIVA, or whomever...or Buddha....whomever...(did I leave anyone out?)
