I felt compelled again to bring out a bit of "double standard" which seems to take place on NowPublic.

Some of you might well be aware of a silly little war I have been waging over being told I was breaking the "code of conduct" by a super editor, and then having the story moved to the dark dismal dungeon of the "so called" forum, and the original story deleted quickly from the news section. (I am still waiting for an apology from the super editor on that false accusation by the way....).

I felt compelled to continue my little skirmish on a different front this afternoon.

Today a story was posted in style with the title "Why ---- ---- Loves NowPublic" (no offense intended to the author..this isn't about you or your story). This story was visited by a Super Editor within 7 minutes of its posting and given kudos. It was visited 10 hours and 10 minutes later by another Super Editor (hello Amy =-) ) and at that point also placed in the forum. But now after three additional hours the story is still there in the style section.  I can search it, it is there, I can look in style headlines it is there, I can refresh the story and it is there. I can look at the authors personal page and it is there.

My story was marked for move 13 minutes after it appeared by a Super Editor and then moved 42 minutes later. Granted my story wasn't as cute and cuddly being titled "NowPublic users and the relentless search for points and status" but none the less after long discussions with the one Super Editor who took care to baby sit the forum discussion of my moved story, it seems strange that this other story is still up as a story. It goes against every thing that was explained to me concerning my stories move/deletion.

I'd be remiss If I didn't mention so many other stories in the last two weeks, which editors also mentioned in comments were not news, which remained on site in the news.

Please NowPublic explain this situation to me.

For the record I know I am stirring the pot a bit, and before I am called a complete whiner by some of you, please understand I am merely pointing out a perceived flaw and sparking debate in the place where it is supposed to happen by all accounts.

Sure seems to me a double standard is happening, You can Love NowPublic in the news section but you cant question it !

Two and a quarter hours have gone by since I last scribbled on the wall in the dark hidden corners of the abandoned forum...... And the story is still undeleted in style.....  Mine was off of the "news" section in less than an hour....this one had been up for 15 and counting.....

I have asked that member to remove their post.

Stories are dealt with on a case by case basis - I think you need to stop comparing yours to others. We are all learning here with this new rule of moving things to the forum, and things cannot happen as quickly as you would often like them to.

I apologize for this.

We just want the news section to be for news and that's it. Between us we do our best to moderate all stories but some take longer than others to be moved here if that is necessary.

If you do not point to the squeak in the wheel it will not get greased.

Thank you for your thoughts as always Amy.

It seems to me plain and simple. If policy is news area for news stories only, fine....if an editor sees a non news story, then said editor should be empowered with the knowledge and abilities to handle the situation and all editors should have the same criteria to work off of.

Here is the rub, news super editor visits non news story within minutes of posting and gives a positive comment... no action.

To me this shows the policy is too flexible...oh..well..this story is not news..but it says it "loves us"..so it can stay.

As for comparing stories (My removed story to others not removed), I do not see why they should be considered different. If the criteria is news only in news section then they are directly relate able.

You do point out a lot of things that may not be right, wish in it self is good.

I would like to hear some propositions though what may be better or could would should be. And how to get there without causing another wrong or injustice in the process.

I for one would like to see the Points removed for the Flags Given, I do feel stupid flagging stories because there are good and getting points for it as well. I personally flag stories because I think more people need to read them and not always because they are good though, many reason as why I flag, yet I do not like the Points that I get for doing so.

I think the points for the flags given should be removed or no longer be. Flag because you mean it and not for points.

It could just be that NowPublic gets tons of posts per day (this isn't even counting spam and the members we block) and occasionally something slips through. Something highly controversial is more likely to be removed faster, as its easy for something people can argue about to get into the top 5 news stories, which we *do not* want.

As far as looking at your work before someone else's, I'm going to take a line from Elections Canada, while they were investigating the conservatives: "Yes, we know others might be breaking the rules, but right now we're looking at *you*."

Don't worry about other members, we'll take care of them.
