Yes! I want to be the best Highlighter ever!

(The video quality isn't exactly amazing. I blame the screen-recording software)

You really do type quite fast... :)

Great idea! I find highlight very easy to use and don't understand why others have problems with it, it is even easy to use it without having it installed on your computer using html.

Vinny, the problem is that not everyone on the planet is a computer wiz!:) I am a classic example:)! Notice, I never use multiple story highlights:)! There's a reason for that:)! I still can't figure it out, and this is with instruction from the "wizards":)!

Hi Rhonda, the easiest way is the way zichi has described below [q url="url goes here" ] content goes here  [/q ]

Thanks for a great instructional video, Jordan! I'm still at square one:)!

Rhonda, the simple way, as Zichi noted, is just to paste in the code. I'll break it down.

1. Copy this:

[q url=""]

[/q]

2. Save it.

If you're having trouble making the NP Highlighter work, just use these commands like this:

3. Paste them into an open NP editing window--you can even use the "create story" link.

4. where it says url-" "    you paste in the URL, the address, of the page you're getting your info from. You do that by copying the URL from the address section of your browser.

5. Copy  a couple of paragraphs from the story.

6. Paste them in between the sets of brackets.

7. Add your own commentary outside the stuff contained between the sets of brackets.

Here's what it looks like:

I'm a potato chip addict, although I ration myself severely. I don't quite believe that those little snackables can be made all that healthy--after all, they're basically salt, grease and fried stuff. You know, basic food groups for the snack addicts.

Snack lovers, rejoice: Munching on potato chips just got a little healthier.

Studies have shown that acrylamide. which has been found in potato chips, causes cancer in lab animals.

Four food manufacturers agreed to reduce levels of a cancer-causing chemical in their potato chips and french fries under a settlement announced Friday by the state attorney general's office.

And here's the actual product. I just slapped that story up there so you could take a look at it.

You can easily do multiple highlights by simply pasting in those little bits of code then filling in the web address between the " " and putting text in between the two sets of brackets.

Hope this helps.

The information and instructions are deeply appreciated! Nice video too, zichi -- that, I can do:)! I will try to "experiment" in the near future - I can only wish myself luck:)!

So I get the feeling that I am doing this whole thing wrong by highlighting the article, and posting commentary with it?

Hi GHos7, if you're highlight an excerpt and then adding your own commentary outside that box, you're doing the right thing. If you highlight the entire article, you're not.  Does that help? :)

That may solve my highlighting problem, as the new download for Firefox is doing dodgy things with my computer setup.  It is so simple, I have find a good news story to try it out.

Thanks for computer savvy people like you, PEP and zichi.

I need help with one more thing:):) I don't know how to insert words like "here" or a member's name, or story title ,for example, without showing the whole link to other stories. Thanks!

In order to do hyperlinking when one word or a phrase is actually a link to another page or photo etc, is to type the word, for example 'here'.

Then highlight the word as if you are going to copy it and click on the button in the toolbar above that looks like a sideways 8.

A box will pop up that allows you to paste a link in there and then hit 'ok' and then that word 'here' is now a hyperlink to a different page.

If you need to change or break the link, you just highlight the word or phrase again and click on the broken sideways 8 beside the original button.

So for example:

Does that help Rhonda?

Not yet, but don't give up:)  I'm not sure that I understand "when one word or a phrase is actually a link..." When I insert a link, I copy the link, paste it, highlight it, then click the insert link, and type the link in the box, and click "ok". What I don't understand is how I can type the word "here" in the box without first pasting the link into the body of the story. I'm missing something:) Thanks Amy.

You need to add the word "here" first and then add the link to the word by right clicking the mouse to highlight the word "here" then use the link function on the tool bar to add the link.

Vinny, I am going to try right now because I just happen to have a link saved to Dr. Who:) Okay, here goes: here

That link works fine Rhonda you seem to have the hang of it now!

Rhonda J Mangus

I do, Vinny! Thank you! Thanks again to everyone!

Rhonda J Mangus

Thank you! It's just one of those things -- this is what I did: I typed the word here, pasted the link in the comment area so I could read it, clicked insert link, typed the link in the box, then deleted the link in the comment area. Thanks to everyone. Only took a year+.  Better late than never:)! Deeply appreciated!
