NP Rank:
Now Public Stripped of Google Page Rank by panzerlawyer | September 30, 2008 at 03:26 am | 107 views | 7 comments
As many of you may know, Google uses a Page Rank (PR) system to determine the authority of a particular web site. The latest PR updates took place this weekend. I just looked at my PR toolbar and noticed that Now Public was stripped. Does anyone know why? Was NP selling links?

It's mostly likely that Google has re-indexed its pages. NowPublic.com is still in the directory, so it may just need to be re-crawled.

Sorry. How do I do that? I thought this was breaking news and not a forum type question.

Just ask an Editor to help you if you have problem, best done with PM.

I think it might be to do with a change in the url, it is now my.nowpublic.com instead of nowpublic.com. I noticed a similar loss of page rank on my own site when I changed the url in th past. Yesterday I noticed a major drop in the number of hits on many NP posts, some not even getting 10 in 8 hours! and wonder if this is connected.

my.nowpublic.com is being served only for loggedin users. Anonmymous users and therefor the google bot as well will keep using www.nowpublic.com, so this reason is unlikely. We are going to investigate the loss of PR though.

Thanks for the explanation nagba, you may want to check the major drop in hits yesterday on many posts unless it was just a problem with the hit counters.
