NP Rank:
This is a running list of all top level channels and the feature pages that are created under each one of them.
You can reach these channels by using the following URL formula:
www.nowpublic.com/tag/(name of top channel or subnav)
For example:
www.nowpublic.com/tag/World
www.nowpublic.com/tag/Environment
If the channel is a subnav (ie - not one of the top level channels, like World or Environment), the URL changes to 'tags'
For example:
www.nowpublic.com/tags/Endangered+Species
www.nowpublic.com/tags/Democratic+Convention
You can also go to the top level channel and see that below the bar at the top of the page is a list of tags that you can click on to go to that channel.
Below is a list of the top level channels with their subnavs underneath. These are changing and expanding all the time, so if you have any ideas for a channel or would like to get more involved in managing a channel, leave a comment here or contact the manager of that channel directly (main channel editors written in bold beside the name of the channel, sub-nav channel curators are in parentheses).

Amy, are we supposed to use those tag on top of the Categories when applicable?
I know, I did ask this before, however here it is again, could we make the Forum easier to access and easier to find things in here, it is still a real Maize.

Yes, as I stated before in a number of different forum posts, we will be overhauling the forums but that will take time....
No, you don't have to do anything with these tags - it's just where to find our new channel pages. Only super editors right now have the ability to create these channels but I just wanted to give everyone a heads up of where and how to find them.

Thank you Amy, Much appreciated.

Hi. I've added in three topical new channels to Amy's list: Gustav, Republican Convention, and Canada Election.

How about a UFO channel in strange!

Is this the appropriate forum to request that Tech & Biz be separated into two distinct channels?
Perhaps Science & Technology and Business & Finance?
And I second Vinny's suggestion of the UFO channel - that could drive some very interesting traffic on the site.

Great suggestion for a UFO channel! Here you go - I've set one up - let's see what content we get into that. Make sure stories are tagged UFO to appear in the channel.
As for the Tech&Biz channel... we're reviewing at the moment whether to keep the channels as they are or make a few changes, so stay tuned in the next few weeks. We've stayed away from Science as a top-level channel because we've tended to get very little news on that from contributors.

My pleasure - have fun with it.
Don't forget we also have a Hurricane channel and a specific Gustav channel to get to grips with too.

That's a fair point about Science not being a good candidate for top-level channel. I think there'd only be a handful of us writing on that one. Does it get enough material to be a sub-channel?
at 14:15 on September 4th, 2008
I think so. I guess it would be a sub-nav of health. I can do that.
at 15:11 on September 4th, 2008
I have created a science channel here.

How about separating the World chanel into the Continents African, American, European, Asian, Middle eastern News, Australian could be with Asian news.
Just an idea since it may make the search easier.

Yes, it's a good thought - and one we're considering, as it will certainly make stories more relevant to their respective regions, and the people who are interested in reading about news from these areas.
It's partly to do with the way the site is built (without going into the specifics, it has a pretty flat channel structure, rather than a complex hierarchy like you see on other sites), and whether members will be able to put stories into two channels, eg Africa and World, so that they appear in both.
Thanks for the suggestion :)

Okay, I have read the new licensing agreement and so on and then read this information regarding the tags! I will have to try it out a few times I think before I get the hang of it. I hope that in due time, it will get easier. I have discovered last time that if I use the google Highlight Tool to upload a story -- I can then no longer go back and 'add' my own information. Thus, it appears that I need to make a decision if I want to highlight an existing news story on the internet, or upload my own 'opinion' on a story/issue. I think that it may be my technical naivete that makes it sometimes difficult for me. Please have some patience with me -- until I get the hang of it.
Thanks,
Angelica
