I had the phone slammed down on me this morning (!), because I was trying to find out some safety information that a company wasn't following because 'money is more important' that the public's safety.

Any good ideas of how to get some good information without getting the phone down if they smell a 'journalist?'..

I remember one journalist got information from someone by saying they were an old schoolfriend.. and it worked!
