I didn't want to hijack the budget topic, but I am curious on others thoughts.

While this might be a little more advanced than NP is prepared to go right now: On the note of assigning stories and such, maybe we could have the developers (eventually) create a project management or "story management" screen for us to suggest content and for others to claim. Nothing drastic in terms of details -just very simple information (like the budget info ANG posted).

Further, I think it would be great to request help, additional coverage (say a protest on 3 college campuses, get 3 different people to cover it...if possible), or request footage (photos/video).

Again, I know that is a little beyond the concept of citizen journalism as a solo approach, but I think it would be nice if we could give some more established news sources a run for their money through collaboration -when applicable.

Thoughts?

Babbling, you anticipate our future very nicely.

We'll be adding some technology to make this more like a true
wiki-assignment board with dates and places to assign reporters, but
for the time being, jump in.

If you find that there is not a News Budget for the current day, Create One! Then we'll add to it.

It's a bit crude but our engineers are working on it.

So for the time being, please add your suggestions for potential stories that should be covered. If you want to go ahead and assign it to either yourself, or to friends you might have recruited to be part of your news network.

This is another great development at NP. The Newsbudget idea is a good one, and expanding it in this way makes it graduate to great. Babbling's input is spot on- it is good to see that it is not only trite minds that sometimes think alike. I was just about to ask a similar question. I look forward to participating in the active creation of and follow up on the NewsBudgets.

Wonderful! Not to mention exciting too! Speaking of recruited friends...it would be kind of interesting to have a harem of citizen reporter friends to deal out assignments too. I should work on that ;)

not forgetting that the best stuff is that which happens without prior warning.

The concept of a news budget is slightly flawed in that by having stories to follow up on, means often it is out there already. Unless new stuff it being dug up...
