Apple Settles iPod Battery Life Lawsuits in Canada

Do you own an older iPod?

Maybe you're like me and are using a four year old ipod mini. I mean, I never needed more than 4 gigs of music and it was built like a brick, why would I ever replace it?

Unfortunately, these days I'd be lucky to get more than 3 songs out of it before the battery died (and that's after a full charge).

While this lawsuit will give 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation ipod owners $44.75 in credit at the Apple online store, it makes no mention of any other specific models and who is owed a refund.

Personally, with the poor battery life of my Mini and my roommate's Nano, I think we should all get free replacement batteries.

Hardware manufacturer, Apple Inc., has agreed to settle two class action lawsuits in Canada, by providing online store credits to buyers of some early-generation iPod devices which suffered from dwindling battery life.

The two lead plaintiffs, Ines Lenze and Bradley Waddell, claimed that Apple had misrepresented the early iPods as having eight to ten hours of continuous battery life. In reality, the device’s potential battery life dwindled significantly after being recharged several times.

Once these settlements are finalized, first- and second-generation iPod owners whose battery life has dwindled to less than five hours, and third-generation owners whose battery life has dropped below four hours, will be eligible for a $44.75 credit at Apple’s online store. The settlement offers are available to customers in Canada who purchased their iPods before June 24, 2004.

Personally I haven’t experienced any problems with three generations of
Ipod I own (Shuffle / Nano / Iphone). But would be furious if after all the
money and dedication I’ve given to ‘Apple’, that any of my products began
not living up to my expectations, thankfully for me they still do!

Thank you for publishing my photo and look forward to the healthy debate!
