This story Highlighted with a Mac.
P.C. (Politically correct) Has never been Seinfeld's strong suit.......
Microsoft is going to start a new $300 (mil? ed) advertising blitz to try to regain some of the street credibility they have been losing over all these years. The campaign is built around the idea that "Windows breaks down barriers than prevent people and ideas from connecting." Sounds like corporate PR-puffing, but there's a twist: it will star Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld.
Seinfeld will get $10 million to star in the presumably funny commercials, which is quite a good chunk of cash compared to the low fare that John Hodgman (Mr. PC) and Justin Long (Mr. Please someone slap that guy) must be getting for their long series of TV, internet and print ads. Let's hope they are better than the Apple ones. Somehow, I feel a connection happening between Jerry and Bill. And perhaps a romantic comedy on the wings.
Maybe it is just me, but is an aging comedian who has an affinity for quirky unreliable vintage cars really the right pitch man for the job here ?
At $10 million, Maybe Seinfeld can afford a brake job now for his '67 Fiat, and get a little body work done to boot.
It takes more than money and a smart ass to fix an image problem Bill.
Update:
Well, as our readers have noted, there's a bit of irony to this, since many of us recall that Seinfeld was always using a Mac on his '90s sitcom. That got us thinking: Should Microsoft hire someone not so clearly playing both sides of the fence?
So it seems Jerry is a Mac'Daddy and Microsoft makes yet another marketing blunder by not bedding their pitch man better.

World_Groove, I like this story. It's good stuff. Of course what you say is true " It takes more than money and a smart ass to fix an image problem Bill."
But taking 10 million of Bills Money can go a long way, and as Seinfeld says "Not that there is anything wrong with that"!

I like Seinfeld, but this does seem a strange fit for these commercials. Although if I had to choose, I would say Seinfeld fits better with a PC than a Mac - can't really put into words why though!

im all for Jerry doing some commercials. I am so sick and tired of the mac vs pc guy commercials they are old and not all that true. I think microsoft for the most part has taken a high road and not bashed mac.

I have several Macs and Several PC's. To Macs credit.... never one single crash, never lost info, only a couple browser lock ups and that wasn't even Macs software. I have had at least 7 severe crashes with windows, "Total system losses."
That being said, I think Microsoft has been literally screwed by some of the lawsuits against them.....
I prefer Mac, but I still use PC's with windows (not as I type this heheheh =-)).

Jerry Seinfeld at Ovens Auditorium Charlotte, NC on April 4th, 2008
He is such a funny person and we really enjoyed his show. He talked about the show and told jokes. Our seats were as high as they could be BUT no seat was a bad seat in this venue. We laughed our asses off from the time we got there until we left.

This'll be interesting. I remember watching Bill Gate's CES 'goodbye video' earlier this year and he did a great job. For such an shy person, he's quite funny on video!

They are desperate now that Dell is going to sell their PCs without Windows.

World_Groove, I like this story. It's good stuff.
The ad itself is so horrifically bad, they should ask for their money back from the ad-agency. It's not funny, engaging, memorable. In fact, it might be the worst attempt at an advertising meme I've ever seen.
