NP Rank:
6 Kilos of Heroin: Cdn Woman in Pakistan Jail
Opinion
Barry Artiste, Now Public Contributor
In another case similar to Brenda Martin jailed in Mexico this year on what Brenda says were "Trumped up charges."
Another Canadian Woman rots in a Pakistani jail on charges of Heroin Smuggling to the tune of 6 kilos.
Though both plead innocence, one wonders about this Canadian woman's story in Pakistan that a man rushed up beside her and dropped the suitcase beside her.
One can be certain the "Hey it's not mine' Defence will be used. Failing that, pleas for a Canadian Intervention will be called upon in another case of "What the Hell were you thinking"?
This is yet another Canadian unclear on the concept of going to Countries thinking their Canadian Passport entitles them to all the freedoms Canadians currently enjoy here, apply there!
Many think their Passport is a "Get out of Jail" passport. Wrong, respect the countries laws your visiting or don't leave home!
Cdn woman in Pakistan jail hasn't spoken to sister in months
By THE CANADIAN PRESS
BELLEVILLE, Ont. - A Belleville, Ont., woman says she's being stonewalled in her attempts to get information about her sister who's been in a Pakistan jail since early 2007.
Thirty-six-year-old Deborah Kerr was arrested at Islamabad International Airport for allegedly carrying six kilograms of heroin in her luggage.
Her sister Sheri Gonyea said in April that Kerr claimed a man ran up to her and dropped a suitcase beside her as she was waiting for a flight to return to Canada.

Barry Artiste, I like this story. It's good stuff. This would really suck if she didn't do anything!

Barry Artiste, I like this story. It's good stuff. That passport aint green! If she wants to be a drug mule she better get an embassy job!
I am not sure anyone with $6 million worth of drugs is just going to leave such a valuable asset with a stranger. Funny how these things only happen with drugs. No one ever just leaves $6 million worth of gold or diamonds or bonds with perfect stranges. I say let the Pakistani system have at 'er.

Thanks everyone for your comments and GS Flags.
As EastVan says, How come no one drops cash and jewels by anyones feet. This sounds like someone got too greedy, though I have no proof, we'll let justice take it's course.

How come you skipped the last line where it says she is expected to plead guilty? It doesn't sound to me like she expects it to be a get out of jail free card. It does sound like her sister expects the Cdn Government to provide her with "communications" but that is about it.

Until she pleads guilty, she ain't, at least that what our laws state. It was not mentioned in any paper she was quoted as saying to anyone that she was pleading guilty, it is just an assumption by some unnamed source, and unfortunately I cannot report on assumptions,. Though most likely she is guilty.
Thanks for the comments though Jay.

Barry Artiste, I like this story. It's good stuff. That's awful. Though her story seems a little odd. Sure the man dropped the suitcase, why was she carrying it?

Barry Artiste, I like this story. It's good stuff.
If someone "dropped" a package or suitcase by my feet, I'd assume it was a bomb and I'd start yelling "package dropped, man ran off!" while I got away from it. ;}
I suspect she got caught. If she was, as others have noted, doing a little business as a mule, then too bad. Citizenship doesn't give you a "get out of jail free" card when you break drug laws away from home. I have no sympathy at all for those involved in the drug trade.

Geez, Barry, didn't you do any more research? The woman was obviously set up by this Pakistani man. Marry his son? After she had children by him? Help him with his export/import business?

Thanks everyone for your comments, CBC news had reported she was unaware of anything, but then as most of us surmise, what else would she say? Oh this? This here ! Oh well, that's just my package!
