The word geothermal means geo (earth) and thermal (heat). It comes from the Greeks when the earth first formed over 5 billion years ago. It is about 4,000 miles from the surface of the earth to the center of the earth. The deeper you go the hotter it gets.

The earths temperature per kilometer is 50-87°per Farenheit mile. Below the surface is the mantle with temperatures between 1,200-2,280°F. The core temperatures may reach 7,200 - 12,600°F.

Since Paulson and Bernake have essentially decided not to help the failed mortgages, and instead are investing the 700b into bank stock and positive investments, it means these homeowners are under the gun. Banks will be stuck with the properties, with forclosure signs littering the neighborhood. They won't find buyers, because the banks are not lending, because they can't, and now with the change of mind by liar Paulson.....this means they will advise all investments to steer clear of those mortgage packages.

To me this is an opportunity....My idea is not an  idea of renting.....because that solves nothing. Banks don't want to be forced to be landlords...

My idea is instead of paying for a house who's loan is more than the worth of it....is to offer the bank a means to make good on the loans.

What I propose is to cut all loans in half who are in default and facing foreclosure.  By doing this; houses that are said to be undervalue will reach their real value. The other half that is still due to the bank will be paid by the Obama Energy Department.

Since we have a new President coming on board he will be instrumental in seeing this happen.. What we want to do is get Geothemal Development Electric Plants up and producing, and selling into the communties. This means incoming revenue. I propose to the banks that they give us the money we need to build the Geothermal Electric Plants...the Obama Energy Department will use the revenue that comes in to pay the other half of the bad loans.

This means people can stay in their homes at a lower mortgage payment, because the loan they are paying now is half of what it use to be. With the Banks Agreement the other half will be paid by the OBAMA GEOTHERMAL ELECTRIC COMPANY, when it sells the electric to the public. Once the agreed half has been paid, the OBAMA GEOTHERMAL ELECTRIC COMPANY pays no more.

This will solve a major problem in the USA, with the housing mortgage issue....and at the same time get the funding needed to get the new Geothermal Electric Plants online. We can build these in every State in the USA....People will be willing to support Geothermal Electric Projects because of the good benefits  it will provide to the homeowners, bank mortgages, and environment. Of course the homeowners will also be paying electric for free because they know their money is going to pay for the mortgage problem...and finally solve this bank catastrophe.

It is estimated that it would not take that much time to pay this off. Many jobs will be created and more homes will be bought at the real home values. In effect I believe this GEOTHERMAL PLAN will ultimately go on line as a replacement to paying taxes to run the government... No longer will we have to argue about taxes or big government....because the Geo-Energy would run things...from its continuous stream of revenue.

Geothermal is a forever resource 24-7 operation, nonpolluting, and cost much less than nuclear plants to operate. It solves the Global Warming problems, and gives the Auto makers a new incentive to create more newer electric car jobs than their dead IC Engine Dinosaur, that is now beginning to fossilize in the US at the moment.

We need to base our security on unlimited real energy security. It will not happen with Paulson and Bernake and their money system and broken record of promises....that only guarantee more wars and IOU's in the world.

By allowing the exact reverse of what Enron did to America, this plan will bring America back in line toward its real creditability......which will keep America strong under the Democratic Party Wing.

Of course there will be other rules we need to follow such as only homes under foreclosure are eligible, and only one home per family.

Good Post Jermano, Yet do not forget that there is never on magic anther to solve all problems. Geo Thermal, does work and can be very useful as many other energy sources can and are. All depends on location, Weather pattern and cost effectiveness. Geo Thermal as other sources does require substantial investments up front. We put a geo thermal system up here and it can get costly as well as most renewable energies can.

Should we invest in Geo thermal and other renewable energies? Yes most definitely. However we should not do it blindly nor narrow Minded, but rather with sound know how and good energy management planning as well as sound engineering.

Here is a very good link Uwe. In fact I would consider using the binary method which only uses the heat and not even needing steam from the water....which has residue troubles in keeping pipes clear.

http://66.218.69.11/search/cache?ei=UTF-8&p=Facts+on+Geothermal+Drilling&fr=ush_mailm&u=geothermal.marin.org/geoenergy.html&w=facts+fact+geothermal+drilling&d=VFjYLELURrDU&icp=1&.intl=us..

Binary Power Plants. In a binary power plant, the geothermal water is passed through one side of a heat exchanger, where it's heat is transferred to a second (binary) liquid, called a working fluid, in an adjacent separate pipe loop. The working fluid boils to vapor which, like steam, powers the turbine generator. It is then condensed back to a liquid and used over and over again. The geothermal water passes only through the heat exchanger and is immediately recycled back into the reservoir.

Although binary power plants are generally more expensive to build than steam-driven plants, they have several advantages: 1) The working fluid (usually isobutane or isopentane) boils and flashes to a vapor at a lower temperature than does water, so we can generate electricity from reservoirs with lower temperatures. This increases the number of geothermal reservoirs in the world with electricity-generating potential. 2) The binary system uses the reservoir water more efficiently. Since the hot water travels through an entirely closed system it results in less heat loss and almost no water loss. 3) Binary power plants have virtually no emissions.

It is a good site and good info for any one interested.

Your method does work well in some areas yet not every where. Volcanic areas are best suited for Geothermal electricity production, other areas are more suited for Farming and heating aid or cooling aid, yet not for power production since they do need power to keep the pumps running to circulate the water for the heat/cooling exchanger.

Thanks for the link.

That is where the binary system would work the best because it uses lower temps.

I think you will see that Obama is as much a slave to Big Oil as is his predecessor, Mr. Bush. If I am right then forget about any meaningful alternative energy policy developments during the Obama presidency. We'll see cosmetic political initiatives like ethanol-fuel for cars, for instance.

I really hope I'm wrong because there's a lot of good ideas out there like the ones presented here in your article which will never see the light of day, if I'm right ...

This is a very interesting idea, however with the banks in an much trouble as they are, I'm not sure they could afford to cut all loans in half, but then again most people can't pay their loans anyway so it wouldn't really matter!

Enough money to set up these plants wasn't available before the econ meltdown and won't be available for a long time to come if ever.

There is enough money and banks can do wonderful things if they see a way of return for their money. This idea shows the way.... If they want the losses instead of doing the positive to get their money returned then what are they going to do?  They have to do something.

Don't get down on your shirtsleeves and dirty socks......its only money....The will of the people is what counts. When seems doomed, then I begin to see the light.....and we are on a wonderful voyage to making it better for ourselves and our family and friends.

Don't under estimate the power of the Banks, and the New Treasury Secretary.... All the bad Bush has realized on his term, this is a welcome sigh of relief to work toward. They know Oil from abroad is not the answer....They want a secure America...

They know I am working for the good of America....

They need electric to run things.....they know electric from the center of the earth is a real resource we can use....They are not about to give that up....They will expand it.

Just think if Somalia had Geothermal Electric which would stabilze their country in producing things....there would be no oil pirates or terrorists on the loose.

Our failure is not giving the right application of energy to the countries in the world. An energy that is nonpolluting and forever to me is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Why do you think there are two ends of the rainbow coming from the ground?  Because that is where our Geothermal begins and never ends....

God Bless the USA....Hope they grab hold of the rainbow of opportuinty here. We can do it.

Here is a look at China. They are so far behind having only 27 sites produced before the opening up of the economy. It's amazing the government was doing the right thing before the opening up of the economy....No private investors have ventured into Geothermal Development since the State stopped its work. Goes to prove China was doing something right before the US stuck their nose into China.

* Geothermal energy exploitation in China started approximately around 1970. In the socialist planned economy geothermal exploration was handled by national bodies with public investments. Drilled productive wells were transferred free of charge to the final user. Since the mid 80s, under the framework of privatization and liberalization of the economy, national investment in exploration has been reduced. No new plants have been commissioned in the period 2000-2005 (Zheng et al., 2005; Battocletti et al., 2000). The only electricity producing fields are located in Tibet.
