Bones Inside Croc Are Those of Lost Crocodile Man

Mr Booker, who was born in Banffshire, Scotland and immigrated to Australia in 1959, went missing while on a camping trip with his wife Doris at the Endeavour River in Cooktown, north Queensland on September 30.

Family and friends swapped memories of the Vietnam veteran, almost three weeks after he disappeared while on holiday with wife Doris in north Queensland, Australia.

Sandals and a watch are all that have been found of Arthur, 62, after an extensive search.

But authorities believe they have captured the croc - a 14ft male with a front foot missing.

Human remains were found inside the reptile's stomach.

Police are waiting for DNA tests to confirm that the remains are those of Arthur.

Arthur, who was born in Banffshire, had gone down the Endeavour River around 8.30am to check crab pots. He disappeared without trace as his wife waited in their vehicle

Police tonight said a forensic examination of material taken from the stomach of the 4.5-metre crocodile were from a man.

The remains are almost certainly those of Mr Booker, from Logan, south of Brisbane, who has not been seen since he went to check a crab pot on the Endeavour River near Cooktown on September 30.

However, police are awaiting the results of DNA tests.

A WEDDING ring is believed to have been found in the stomach of one of the crocodiles suspected of taking Brisbane Vietnam veteran Arthur Booker.

ABC Television reported that X-rays showed a wedding band inside the larger of two crocodiles captured last week in the Endeavour River, Cooktown, as part of the search for Mr Booker, The Courier-Mail reports.

Officials in Queensland who have been investigating the fate of Arthur Brooker, 62, said they had found the remains inside one of three big crocodiles captured in the Endeavour River.

Mr Booker, who is originally from Scotland and served with Australian forces in the Vietnam war, vanished from the banks of the crocodile-infested river in Cape York last week while checking pots used to catch crabs.

The three crocodiles, longtime residents of the Endeavour, were then caught and taken by truck to a veterinary surgery in Cairns. One has been ruled out as a possible culprit but the other two will be subjected to further tests, a police spokesman said following the initial discovery of human tissue.

"His behaviour labels him as a problem crocodile," Queensland Parks and Wildlife operations manager Mike Devery said yesterday.

"It was showing very territorial behaviour. It was swimming on top of the water and was not deterred at all by boats with people in them.

"He is a concern, particularly with ongoing tour operations and a lot of human activity on the part of the river."

Michael Devery, a manager with Queensland Parks and Wildlife, said the 500kg reptile had shown threatening behaviour during the search for Mr Booker and was not frightened of humans.

It will most likely end up at a crocodile farm.
