US rivals to make 9/11 appearance
The sickness of patrotism these guys are trying to say that US politics is all about patrotism. it makes me sick. Yes the country should morn but lets not have a political show.
The US presidential rivals, Barack Obama and John McCain have said they will appear together on the anniversary of the 11 September 2001 attacks.
The senators said they would take part in the commemorations in New York - the site of two of the attacks.
The two candidates said they would put aside politics to honour the memory of the nearly 3,000 people who died.
Hijacked planes were crashed into New York's Twin Towers, the Pentagon in Washington and a field in Pennsylvania.
"All of us came together on 9/11 - not as Democrats or Republicans - but as Americans," the joint statement said.
"In smoke-filled corridors and on the steps of the Capitol; at blood banks and at vigils - we were united as one American family.

And if they didn't go to memorial services to honor those who died, people would be calling them "callous" and "lacking in respect."
I wouldn't 'dis anyone who showed up to honor our dead, with respect for them, their families. Maybe it's different where you live, though. Maybe people throw rocks at others who show up for memorial services. Who knows?

Think we need an opinion tag to start with.
I understand your concern that a memorial service will be wrapped in a false flag of pseudo patriotism for political gain. Were that to happen, it would be not only wrong, but cheap and unpatriotic.
I am glad they both are showing up. I am glad they both are being given the opportunity to show up.
I trust it will be in keeping with the solemnity of the occasions.
I hope no one comes out throwing rocks at another as a result.
No matter you think of the events which led up to the attacks or the actions following, the victims and their families deserve honor and respect and to always be remembered.
If, in the course of this statement, someone thinks I took a political shot, I apologize now. It was not my intention.

Lets see what happens on the day, if they use this sad event for political gain then I can say I told you so. If showing up and laying wreaths with no political speeches is the venue I will then eat my hat.

I hope you own a straw hat. ;-)
Outside of my straws, the rest would be dang tough to get down, and just forget the rabbit fur and leather bomber hat.
Try that faith of the mustard seed thing.

Babel-Fish, I like this story. I hope they don't have a political show. I feel Obama & McCain will keep things in perspective. This is to honor the men & women that died that day not to honor the Politicians.
