With a budget shortfall of 5.0 billion, Governor Jim Doyle came up with a 10% cut initially. Now the governor's office is proposing to work individually with agencies to indentify even greater cuts. Doyle wants also to raise taxes in hospitals and oil company to try to balance Wisconsin budget.

Wisconsin state agencies need to identify more than the 10% in cuts in order to help the state cope with a projected $5 billion budget shortfall.

Gov. Jim Doyle's secretary of the Department of Administration sent agencies a letter Friday telling them to review their budgets and come up with reductions greater than 10%.

An earlier deadline of Monday to come up with 10% in cuts has been waived. Instead, the governor's budget office will be working directly with agencies to identify even greater cuts.

Those reductions will be worked into Doyle's budget that will be introduced in February.

Doyle also will push for new taxes on hospitals and oil companies to help balance the budget.
